BFAR Dir. Demothenes Escoto, sinibak kasunod ng desisyon ng Ombudsman

Kinumpirma ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na sinibak na sa puwesto si Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Director Demosthenes Escoto.

Sa pahayag ng DA, ito ay dahil matibay umano ang ebidensya na guilty ang opisyal sa katiwalian dahil sa pagbili ng ahensya ng communications equipment noong 2018.

“The Ombudsman’s order, forwarded to the office of the DA chief for implementation, found Escoto guilty of grave misconduct in a graft case arising from BFAR procurement of communications equipment in 2018,” ayon kay DA, Sec. Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.

Dahil dito, nagtalaga na ng bagong BFAR chief si Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. matapos matanggap ang kautusan mula sa Office of the Ombudsman.

Itinalaga ng kalihim si Isidro Velayo, Jr. bilang Officer-in-Charge ng BFAR kapalit ni Escoto.

Si Velayo ay Director IV at Assistant Director for Technical Services, at isang career professional at respetadong opisyal ng BFAR.

Dati siyang national coordinator ng Seaweed Program ng BFAR at dating regional director sa Zamboanga Peninsula.

Tiniyak naman ni Laurel na ang pagkasibak sa puwesto ni Escoto ay hindi makahahadlang para maipagpatuloy pa ng BFAR ang ibat ibang proyekto.

Ito rin ang naging marching order ni Laurel sa talagang OIC ng ahensya.

“My marching order to him is to ensure that operations of the agency will not be affected by this legal development,” pahayag ni Sec. Tiu Laurel Jr.

Samantala, maaari pang i-apela ni Escoto sa Court of Appeals (CA) ang desisyon ng Ombudsman.

Sa ngayon, ay wala pang inilalabas na pahayag si Escoto hinggil dito.
